This week Powell Peralta announced a new color way of the classic Mike Vallely Elephant graphic. Shipping this April is the brand new Camouflage Elephant Mike Vallely deck from Powell Peralta.
Mike had this to say on his Instagram: "I thought the "Blacklight" Elephant would be the last reissue or variation of my Classic Elephant Art that I would do with Powell Peralta. I've enjoyed the relationship, but lately, I felt my Elephant Graphic had run its course. I'd had this idea for a Camouflage Elephant rolling around in my head for a long time, and I figured on the way out the door, I'd ask George what he thought. He wasn't thrilled with the camp background, haha, but he agreed to let.me explore the idea. Mocking it up, we found that the leaf pattern background did not work with the camouflage, so we lost that from the design, and I guess in that way, it's not an authentic "reissue" but more so, an alternate play on the amazing VCJ Art. I like it; it's just as I pictured. George is still not completely sold on the camp background, but he loves elephants as much as I do, so he has given us the green light to have some fun with the design. This one has my esthetic fingerprint on it, for better or worse. maybe we'll keep playing it if it's for the better. Either way, Thank You for Supporting this Board and Art through the years. The Elephant has always represented a dream come true, and I'm STILL dreaming."
