untitled: after is the debut release from two esteemed artists of the avant-jazz community, Catherine Sikora and Brian Chase. Sikora (tenor and soprano saxophones) and Chase (drumset) embrace a contemporary take on classic free improvisation, merging a sensibility of lyricism with the spontaneity of improvisation. Their instrumental virtuosity is featured as a bridge to the music it discovers. As inspiration for this recording, the classic epic poem of Beowulf was used in small excerpts and interpreted as musical source material.
