Well, here we are. Who'da thunk? I mean, yes, at some point I figured it was inevitable that we would devolve into a dystopian landscape of sorts—you know, late-stage capitalism and the associated growing pains of gross economic disparity—but I was thinking something more along the lines of grinding up the downtrodden masses to be pressed into edible crackers used to feed the very same masses. Or maybe even that fantastic end to all humankind where Skynet decided it had outgrown its Cyberdine masters to go all genocidal on their asses. But no... it wasn't Harry Harrison, Harlan Ellison, Ray Bradbury, or Philip K. Dick who foretold the end of our civilization, it was Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butthead. All heavy metal delinquents aside, it was his 2006 film Idiocracy that really laid out the mind-numbingly bleak future that awaited us all. Lo and behold, after decades of reality television, internet algorithms, and a bizarre hollowing out of the basic educational system, we've finally hit intellectual rock bottom and boy oh boy have the chickens come home to fucking roost… hence our ask of Don Pendleton to do a cutting reprisal of an old Alien Workshop series he did back in 2002 entitled "Prophecy or Paranoia?" albeit under the new moniker of "Prophecy or Idiocracy?".
