Shorty came out of Chicago in the early '90s with Al Johnson on vocals and Mark Shippy on guitar, cutting singles for Worry Bird, Bovine (produced by Steve Albini) and Skin Graft, the Thumb Days LP, and the Fresh Breath EP on Skin Graft in 1994. After Shorty split, Johnson and Shippy formed U.S. Maple.
