Guru – JAZZMATAZZ LIVE VOL. 1 & 2 Vinyl LP Record *Unofficial Release*
JAZZMATAZZ was a groundbreaking series of albums by rapper GURU, born Keith Edward Elam. Best known as one-half of the iconic hip-hop duo Gang Starr, Guru launched the Jazzmatazz project in 1993, blending hip-hop with live jazz instrumentation. The series featured collaborations with legendary jazz musicians like Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, and Branford Marsalis, as well as contemporary vocalists and producers. Early live performances of Jazzmatazz brought this innovative fusion to life, featuring Guru rapping alongside seasoned jazz musicians and a live band. These performances captured the raw energy of both genres, with improvisational jazz solos intertwining seamlessly with Guru's signature monotone flow. This dynamic live experience helped solidify Jazzmatazz as not just a studio project but a cultural movement that celebrated the shared history of jazz and hop-hop. Through Jazzmatazz, Guru, renowned for his intellectual lyrics and dedication to uplifting artistry, bridged the gap between two rich musical traditions, creating a timeless, genre-defying sound. Though Guru passed away in 2010, his legacy lives on through his pioneering work.
